Fountains Of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger Dies From COVID-19 Complications

According to Rolling Stone, Adam Schlesinger, co-founder of Fountains of Wayne and an award-winning songwriter for film, television, and theater, died Wednesday from complications related to COVID-19. He was just 52 years old.

Fountains of Wayne are probably best know for their crossover hit "Stacy's Mom", but the New Jersey power-pop outfit released five albums between 1996 and 2011. Schlesinger had another band called Ivy, with whom he put out six albums. He scored an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song in 1996 after writing and recording the super-catchy title track for the movie That Thing You Do. The movie follows a one-hit wonder band called The Wonders, and "That Thing You Do" is their one hit. Schlesinger went on to write original songs for other movies and TV shows

He co-wrote the music for the 2008 Broadway musical Cry-Baby and served as a composer and executive music producer for The CW’s hit musical series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

At the time of his death, Schlesinger was working with his Crazy Ex-Girlfriend collaborator Rachel Bloom on a musical version of The Nanny.
